Sia's This Is Acting turned a clever premise into a pop blockbuster, and this limited 10th anniversary edition revisits it across two LPs of black and white 140-gram vinyl, adding bonus tracks and remixes.
Released in 2016 as her seventh studio album, the record gathered songs Sia had written with other stars in mind, tracks that were passed over or left on the table. Rather than let them gather dust, she sang them herself, treating each one as a role to inhabit. The title was the joke and the mission statement at once.
"Alive", co-written with Adele and Tobias Jesso Jr., is a towering survival anthem built for her full-throated delivery. "Bird Set Free" opens the album with raw defiance, while "Cheap Thrills", originally pitched to Rihanna, swaps big emotion for a sly, dancehall-flavoured celebration of having fun without a fortune. "Unstoppable" struts with armour-plated confidence.
Across the album her voice does the heavy lifting, cracking and soaring over pianos, synths and pounding drums, the sound of someone who knows exactly how far she can push.
A decade on, the anniversary pressing gives fans a fresh reason to hear these songs on wax, and the black and white palette suits an artist whose two-tone wig became one of pop's most recognisable images.
