Shogun (Original Soundtrack) [Red] Vinyl
 [Red]){kind=small}
Only 19 left in stock.
Shōgun gets its first physical release as a score, Atticus Ross, Leopold Ross and Nick Chuba's two years of work pressed onto red 140g vinyl.
The trio spent more than two years scoring FX's ten-episode adaptation, recording traditional gagaku instruments with Japanese arranger Taro Ishida and then bending those sounds through samplers and electronics. The aim was period-accurate textures turned into something modern and disarming, a score that feels ancient and unsettling at once. This 2024 release arrives with exclusive artwork by illustrator Yuko Shimizu and an eight-page booklet with a foreword by Leopold Ross.
Osaka Castle brings a sense of political scale, Crimson Sky stretches the traditional instruments into something eerie, A Dream Within a Dream drifts into hushed territory, and The Pull of Death carries the dread that hangs over the story.
Atticus Ross brings the weight of a long run of acclaimed film scores, and alongside Leopold Ross and Chuba he treats the feudal setting with respect rather than spectacle. The result works as a standalone listen, patient and atmospheric, with long stretches of tension that suit a record played in the dark. Fans of the series will find the story's mood preserved, while soundtrack collectors get a handsome edition, pressed in red and presented with care.
