¿Dónde Están los Ladrones? is the album that made Shakira a Latin rock heavyweight, pressed here on 150-gram vinyl with all its bite intact.

Released in 1998, it comes with a backstory worthy of its title. The question, which asks where the thieves are, was sparked by a briefcase of her lyrics stolen at Bogotá's airport while she was on tour, forcing her to start again, and it soon took on a sharper meaning as a jab at corruption among South America's ruling elites.

Recorded in Miami with Emilio Estefan Jr. as executive producer, and co-produced by Shakira herself alongside collaborators including Luis Fernando Ochoa and Lester Mendez, the record blends Latin pop with crunchy alternative rock. Ciega, Sordomuda bursts out with mariachi-tinged brass and a ferocious vocal, Inevitable is a slow-burning rock ballad that bares every nerve, and Tú lets her voice soften into something achingly intimate. Ojos Así closes the set with a bold turn toward Middle Eastern melody, including a verse in Arabic that honours her Lebanese heritage.

It became a landmark of Latin music and opened the door to the global crossover that followed. More than two decades on, it still sounds fearless and fiercely her own, a record that rewards every replay.
