The Sea of Emotion is the first full studio album from SatchVai, the long-awaited pairing of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, due in 2026 as a gatefold 2LP in clear yellow and turquoise vinyl.

The story goes back more than fifty years. In 1973 on Long Island, a 13-year-old Vai began taking guitar lessons from a 17-year-old Satriani, and both went on to shape instrumental rock guitar in their own very different ways. They shared stages on the G3 tours, and a later reunion run finally cleared space in their schedules to make a record together.

Satriani's melodic writing and Vai's restless experimentalism pull against each other in the best way. Mayhem, the lead single, opens with a hard rock charge, while Zoot Suit Riot swerves into swing. I Wanna Play My Guitar brings in Glenn Hughes on vocals, and the album closes with the three-part The Sea of Emotion suite, the third part opening with a vintage reel-to-reel recording from one of those early lessons.

Producer Eric Caudieux keeps the sessions focused, with a rotating cast of players including Billy Sheehan, Kenny Aronoff and Bryan Beller holding down the rhythm.

It is the sound of two old friends finally finishing a conversation they started as teenagers, and it was worth the wait.
