Swingin' Easy puts Sarah Vaughan in the most flattering setting of all, just that extraordinary voice and a sharp piano trio. This limited Spanish import comes on 180 gram vinyl with bonus tracks.
Released by EmArcy in 1957 and produced by Jack Tracy, the album draws on two trio sessions recorded three years apart. John Malachi or Jimmy Jones sits at the piano, Joe Benjamin or Richard Davis plays bass, and Roy Haynes keeps time on drums throughout, light on his feet and full of wit.
Shulie a Bop is the showstopper, Vaughan scatting with dazzling speed and playful precision. Lover Man and Body and Soul reveal her gift for slow, luxurious phrasing, while Polka Dots and Moonbeams lets her bend and stretch a melody with breathtaking control. Elsewhere the trio picks up the pace with light, swinging standards that show off her playful sense of time.
