The Drive Home is Samara Cyn's debut EP, ten tracks that landed her on nearly a dozen artists-to-watch lists before most listeners had even caught up.
Born to an Army family that moved constantly, Cyn had already lived in six states by the time she landed at Arizona State University, performing at Phoenix open mics on the side before a corporate internship convinced her cubicle life wasn't the plan. Lauryn Hill's influence runs through everything she makes, that same neo-soul-meets-hip-hop instinct, and Hill herself later brought Cyn out onstage, a full-circle moment for someone who cites Hill's MTV Unplugged album as a direct blueprint. This EP, released in 2024, is where that voice first fully arrived, sharp enough to land campaigns with Nike, Kia, and Tommy Jeans and a Daily Show appearance in short order.
Sinner carries real conviction, Cyn's flow unhurried but never lazy. MFTB hits with the record's most direct swagger, and imightdie sits at the project's emotional core, vulnerability delivered without losing any of her poise.
A debut EP that did more career-building in a year than most artists manage in three albums. This vinyl pressing marks its first anniversary, and the momentum hasn't slowed since.
