Sam Barber's Broken View trades the sprawl of his debut for something leaner and more focused, a thirteen-song second album pressed on 140-gram vinyl.

The Missouri-raised songwriter broke through with Restless Mind, a 28-track double album that drew billions of streams and established him as one of the most talked-about new voices in country and Americana. Released in 2026, the follow-up deliberately keeps things tighter. Barber co-wrote and co-produced it with Joe Becker, while Aaron Dessner lent a hand on additional songs, and the sessions moved through several studios, including Dessner's Long Pond.

The sound pushes well beyond the stripped-back acoustic style he started with. Borrowed Time opens on growling guitars and rumbling percussion, a grunge-tinged builder that lands with real force, and Lighthouse keeps the electric charge going. I Will Follow pares back to piano and an almost hymn-like solemnity, while closer Hope It Never Rains turns dark and stormy, his rasping voice riding over reverb-heavy drums. Banjo, mandolin and fiddle add rootsy colour throughout.

Barber has said he would rather listeners find their own meaning in these songs than hear his backstories, and the album leaves that space open. It is the sound of an artist growing into a bigger room without losing the plainspoken grit that first drew people in.
