Sabrina Carpenter's Fruitcake is a pocket-sized holiday party, six songs of mischief and mistletoe, pressed here on clear vinyl.
Released in 2023 as her first Christmas record, the EP arrived between Emails I Can't Send and the Short n' Sweet era, and it carries the same playful wit that made her a pop phenomenon. Produced by Julian Bunetta and John Ryan, it skips the dusty standards in favour of original songs, letting Carpenter's comic timing and sugar-coated vocals do the heavy lifting. Its popularity only grew after her holiday special, turning a seasonal side project into a December fixture. The whole thing runs barely a quarter of an hour, yet it packs more personality than most full-length holiday albums.
A Nonsense Christmas reworks her viral hit with Dickens puns, tree-trimming jokes and a brand-new outro, while Buy Me Presents bounces along with a cheeky saxophone solo. Santa Doesn't Know You Like I Do slows things into a sad, sweet ballad with a spoken-word bridge, and the closing White Xmas offers a short, sparkling take on the Irving Berlin classic.
It's festive without being saccharine and funny without losing its heart. Spin it while the tree goes up, and expect at least one guest to start singing along by the second chorus.
