Thirty years after it first strutted onto dance floors, RuPaul's Foxy Lady returns as a remastered 30th anniversary edition, spread across two 140-gram LPs.
Released in 1996 as the follow-up to Supermodel of the World, the album caught RuPaul at the height of a nineties cultural takeover, pushing drag deeper into the pop mainstream long before it was common. Mainstream radio largely looked the other way, but clubs and LGBTQ+ audiences embraced it wholeheartedly, and the era has only grown in stature as fans have caught up with just how far ahead of the curve it was. Its bright, defiant spirit still feels like a party with a purpose.
The production, with dance heavyweights Eric Kupper and Richard "Humpty" Vission among those behind the boards, blends house, R&B and glitter-coated pop into something tailor-made for the runway. "Snapshot" is the club anthem, all sleek beats and self-assured sass, while "Happy" and "A Little Bit of Love" deliver pure, uplifting floor-fillers, and the title track "Foxy Lady" struts with all the glamour the name promises.
