Released in 2003, Drive stands as the quietly confident final solo statement from Robert Palmer, an album that trades sharp-suited swagger for late-night reflection and seasoned restraint.
Arriving after decades of genre-hopping success, Drive finds Palmer embracing maturity without sacrificing his signature cool. Recorded in Paris and largely self-produced, the album leans into jazz-inflected pop, soft rock, and soulful understatement, offering a more intimate counterpart to the punchy sophistication that defined much of his earlier catalog. It feels less like a farewell announcement and more like an artist settling comfortably into his own skin.
