REO Speedwagon's The Hits gathers the arena-rock heroes' biggest moments on 150-gram vinyl, a single LP built for singing along at full volume.

First released in 1988, the collection traces the band's climb from hard-working Illinois road warriors to radio royalty. Kevin Cronin's clear, earnest tenor and Gary Richrath's muscular guitar made them one of the defining sounds of American rock radio, and this set follows that arc from the late seventies through to the late eighties, with a couple of then-new songs added for good measure.

Keep On Loving You remains the blueprint power ballad, Cronin's plea building over pounding piano into a huge, cathartic chorus, while Can't Fight This Feeling is the slow-dance classic that never seems to leave the airwaves. Take It on the Run swaggers on one of Richrath's finest riffs, and Roll With the Changes is pure stomping, organ-driven optimism.

The sequencing moves between ballads and rockers with ease, a reminder of just how many radio staples this band wrote and how well they hold up.
