Red Hot Chili Peppers' Stadium Arcadium turns 20 with this limited anniversary edition, spreading the double album over four yellow and red LPs in gatefold packaging.

Released in 2006 and split into two halves, Jupiter and Mars, it was the band's most ambitious statement, produced by longtime collaborator Rick Rubin. It became their first album to reach number one in the US and won the Grammy for Best Rock Album, and it was also John Frusciante's last record with the band until his return more than a decade later.

Frusciante's guitar work is the star throughout, layered, melodic and endlessly inventive, while Flea, Chad Smith and Anthony Kiedis lock in with the ease of a band at the top of its game.

Dani California kicks off with a swaggering riff and a story that winds across American backroads, while Snow (Hey Oh) rides one of Frusciante's most nimble, cascading guitar lines. Tell Me Baby is all funk bounce and Flea bass, and Wet Sand builds into a soaring, emotional finale that ranks among their best moments.

There's a lot of music here, and that's the point. Across four LPs the album finally gets the room it always needed, making this the most generous way to hear the band's sprawling high-water mark.
