Ray Charles fused gospel fire with rhythm and blues, and The King Of The Soul: Classic Hits gathers that breakthrough on limited 180-gram red vinyl from Spain.

This 2026 collection focuses on the recordings that made his name in the fifties and early sixties, when he took the call and response of the church and set it to secular songs about love and money. Some listeners were scandalised. Plenty more started dancing, and soul music as we know it began to take shape, with Charles rewriting the rules for every singer who followed.

What'd I Say, presented in both parts, is the main event, a sweaty, electric-piano-driven exchange with his backing singers that became his first crossover top 10 record.
