Ralph Champagne Revue's Grinch brings a crooner's cocktail glass to the holidays, a five-track mini LP pressed as a picture disc and built for the season's more mischievous parties.
Ralph Champagne is the lounge-loving, country-tinged alter ego of Blag Dahlia, the notorious frontman of punk provocateurs The Dwarves. The Revue made its debut with this holiday release in 2025, trading buzzsaw guitars for vintage-leaning arrangements and a wink in every line, with drummer Josh Freese, Tom Ayres and producer Andy Carpenter among the players shaping the sound.
The centerpiece is Drinking Up Christmas, a boozy reworking of the Dwarves favorite Better Be Women, featuring a guest turn from Dexter Holland of The Offspring. Something New is lifted by the shimmering harmonies of Petra Haden, and Mr. Grinch gives the familiar holiday staple a sly, swinging makeover. Instrumental versions of Mr. Grinch and Drinking Up Christmas round things out, letting the band's tidy, swinging arrangements take the spotlight.
It is short, silly in the best way, and played by musicians who clearly take the craft seriously even when the jokes are flying. File it next to your Dwarves records or slip it among the classic Christmas albums, then watch the holiday party take an interesting turn.
