Walter Schreifels and Quicksand reach back to their roots on Bring On The Psychics, the 2026 fifth album from the post-hardcore pioneers, pressed here on blue and white vinyl.
Produced and mixed by Jon Markson and recorded in just ten days at The Animal Farm in Flemington, New Jersey, it is the band's first full-length since Distant Populations and their first for Equal Vision. Schreifels has said he revisited the records he played on in his youth with Youth of Today and Gorilla Biscuits, hoping to capture their positive energy, mosh parts included.
"Get To It" tackles procrastination head-on with churning, bouncing momentum, calling out the excuses that keep people standing still. "Regenerate" is about finding new paths after life knocks you down, while "Cool Guy" is a deliberate old-school hardcore diss track aimed at the scene's self-appointed tastemakers. "Crystallize" pairs a mid-tempo pound with a two-chord riff that is both heavy and oddly pretty. "Supercollider", first heard on the band's split with Hot Water Music, finds a home here too.
At under half an hour, the record is lean and urgent, bridging Quicksand's influential nineties sound with the exploratory instincts of their recent work. It plays like a band with nothing left to prove and plenty left to say.
