Live Killers is Queen caught in full flight on their 1979 European tour, presented here as a black 2LP UK import.

The band's first live album, produced by Queen themselves, arrived at the end of a decade in which they had become one of the most thrilling concert acts on the planet. Recorded across European dates early that year, it catches Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon at the height of their arena-rock powers, with the crowd noise and rough edges left firmly in place.

A blistering, sped-up "We Will Rock You" kicks things off before the band tears through hits and deep cuts with real abandon. "Love of My Life" becomes a stadium-wide singalong as the audience takes over the vocals, and "Bohemian Rhapsody" plays its operatic middle section from tape before the band crashes back in for the hard rock finale.

"Brighton Rock" stretches into a lengthy showcase for May's layered, echo-laden guitar, the kind of indulgence that only works live. Mercury, meanwhile, works the room like nobody else, holding thousands in the palm of his hand.

For anyone who knows Queen mainly through studio polish or Live Aid footage, this is the full-throttle late-1970s band in its prime, warts, sweat and all.
