Quadeca's Scrapyard began life as a run of EPs built from songs that never made his albums, and the finished 2024 mixtape returns as a coloured double LP reissue.

The project grew out of the era around I Didn't Mean to Haunt You, the 2022 album that carried Ben Lasky far from his YouTube rap beginnings into folktronica, indie rock and shoegaze. Late in 2023 he started releasing Scrapyard instalments, then folded those songs together with unreleased material into one full-length mixtape on DeadAir. He produced nearly everything himself, and the result feels both scrappy and carefully stitched, which suits the name.

Dustcutter opens proceedings, and Way Too Many Friends is a brisk, catchy standout that became the face of the release. A La Carte, co-produced with and featuring brakence, pairs two restless genre-blenders, and the closing Texas Blue, featuring Kevin Abstract, stretches out into something wide-eyed and cinematic.

Critics who had followed his reinvention embraced it, and the mixtape landed on several year-end lists in 2024.

Sitting neatly between I Didn't Mean to Haunt You and 2025's Vanisher, Horizon Scraper, it works as a bridge between two of his most ambitious records, and as a rewarding, surprising listen in its own right.
