On antichamber, Puma Blue strips everything back to the bone, a hushed, intimate record that feels like being let into a room you were never meant to see.
Jacob Allen made his name on the South London scene with lo-fi, jazz-tinged bedroom soul, then widened the frame with the band-driven Holy Waters in 2023. Now based in Atlanta, he turned further inward for this 2025 album. Where its predecessor leaned on group improvisation, antichamber goes minimal, trusting his voice and a handful of carefully chosen sounds to carry the weight. It arrived alongside a sister release, extchamber, built from ambient arrangements and field recordings.
The songs hang in the air like thoughts at three in the morning. Hotel Room and Whilst My Heart Breaks find Allen at his most tender and unguarded, his soft, breathy delivery wrapped around lines about love and absence. Gone Is the Grace carries a quiet ache that lingers well after it ends, and Decatur Bells brings the record to a close with a gentle, unhurried stillness that feels like the first light after a long night.
Patient and deeply personal, this is a record that rewards headphones and a darkened room. Fans of his earlier work will recognize the voice instantly, but this is Puma Blue at his most exposed.
