Primus serve up A Handful of Nuggs, a four-track EP on gold vinyl that gives fans a first proper taste of the band's new lineup alongside some gloriously odd company.

The EP arrived in 2026, not long after drummer John Hoffman joined Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde following a worldwide audition that drew more than six thousand hopefuls. The Ol' Grizz is among the first studio recordings with Hoffman behind the kit, and it is unmistakably Primus, built on rubbery high-speed bass runs and pummelling double kick drums.

The rest of the set is just as playful. Holy Diver turns Dio's 1983 metal anthem into something wonderfully strange, with Puddles Pity Party, the towering sad-clown persona of singer Michael Geier, stepping up to the microphone. Little Lord Fentanyl brings in Puscifer, Maynard James Keenan's long-running project, and a live Duchess (And the Proverbial Mind Spread), captured at the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia, shows how ferocious the band can sound on stage.

Those last two songs first surfaced on a 7-inch single the year before, so this gathers them alongside the new material in one place. It is a short, sharp snack of a record, and exactly the kind of weird, generous gesture Primus fans have come to expect from Claypool and company.
