Silver Shade finds Peter Murphy, nearly five decades into one of rock's most theatrical careers, sounding gloriously unbothered by time, a double album glowing on blue vinyl.
The Bauhaus frontman's tenth studio album arrived in 2025 on Metropolis Records, produced by Killing Joke's Youth, who frames that famously elastic baritone with a rich mix of guitars, synths and shadowy atmosphere. Murphy has always moved easily between gothic grandeur and glam theatricality, and here he does both while keeping the songs direct, melodic and surprisingly warm.
Sherpa leads the way with a quiet sense of purpose, The Artroom Wonder indulges Murphy's bohemian streak, Meaning of My Life turns inward with a searching, philosophical air, and Time Waits lets the tempo settle into unhurried reflection.
Guest appearances, including Trent Reznor, members of Tool and Boy George, add colour without ever crowding the star of the show. This is a confident, mature record that never sounds like a nostalgia act, and the blue double vinyl gives its textures plenty of room to shimmer. For long-time admirers it is a welcome return to form, and for anyone curious about what the godfather of goth sounds like today, it is a vivid, rewarding place to begin.
