Pearl Jam in Melbourne in 1998, with Jack Irons behind the kit: Give Way captures that night across two LPs, imported here from Germany.
Recorded at Melbourne Park during the Yield tour and broadcast at the time by Australian radio station Triple J, the show had a strange afterlife. An unauthorised CD giveaway was mostly destroyed before it reached fans, turning surviving copies into collector's grails, until the band finally gave it an official release for Record Store Day 2023. It remains the only official Pearl Jam live album to feature Irons, whose powerful, tribal drumming drove the band through this era.
The setlist plays like a career sampler. Release opens the night in a slow, rising hush, Corduroy surges with crowd-rattling force, and Given To Fly soars with the optimism of the then-new Yield. Black becomes a vast, aching singalong that shows how deeply these songs had already connected with Australian audiences.
Eddie Vedder sounds raw and fully committed, Mike McCready's solos tear loose, and the crowd is a constant presence, singing back nearly every word.
For anyone who grew up on the band's 1990s records, this is a vivid snapshot of a group at the height of its live powers, and a long-awaited chance to own the show on vinyl.
