Before the sold-out tours and big sing-along choruses, there was Sweet FA, the 2016 debut EP that introduced Vancouver's Peach Pit, now back on vinyl as an anniversary edition.

Singer Neil Smith and guitarist Chris Vanderkooy had been friends since high school, and these songs catch the band right as their easygoing indie rock started finding an audience beyond their hometown. The full-length Being So Normal followed a year later, but this short release is where the blueprint was drawn, with breezy guitar lines and wry, lovelorn lyrics delivered with a shrug.

The self-titled Peach Pit doubles as a mission statement, while Drop the Guillotine and Seventeen show off the knack for wistful, chiming hooks that would become the band's calling card. The title track rounds out the set, leaving you wanting more in the way only a great debut EP can.

Fans who discovered the band through later favourites will find the origin story here in its purest, most unvarnished form, the sound of four friends figuring out exactly who they are. Ten years on, it still sounds like a summer afternoon that never quite ends, and this anniversary pressing is a sweet way to mark how far the band has come since.
