Paul McCartney heads home on The Boys of Dungeon Lane, a 2026 album steeped in Liverpool memory and presented here in an embossed jacket with a booklet.

The title comes from a lyric in a 1991 demo, and Dungeon Lane itself is a real road in Speke, running down towards the shore of the Mersey near where McCartney spent his childhood. That landscape hangs over the whole record. Recorded between legs of the Got Back tour from 2021 onwards, it pairs him with producer Andrew Watt, with McCartney handling most of the instruments himself, from bass and drums to piano and synths.

Lead single "Days We Left Behind" sets the reflective tone its title promises. "Home to Us" is the headline moment, a duet with Ringo Starr, who also plays drums, with Chrissie Hynde and Sharleen Spiteri adding backing vocals. Opener "As You Lie There," the first song he and Watt worked on together, is tender and patient, while "Momma Gets By" closes things with an orchestral arrangement shaped alongside Giles Martin.

There is a looseness to these performances that suits the subject matter beautifully. More than six decades into his recording life, McCartney still sounds curious about where he came from, and this album makes a heartfelt postcard from the streets that started it all.
