Recto Verso is the debut album from Parisian duo Paradis, a velvet-smooth fusion of French pop and late-night house, here as a double LP imported from France.
Simon Mény and Pierre Rousseau spent years shaping it after relocating from Paris to the south of France, pushing the release back until the songs had time to mature. Released in 2016 on Barclay, it builds on the buzz of their early club singles while leaning further into melody, pairing softly sung French vocals with warm synths and patient, rolling grooves. The duo produced it themselves with no guest features, so the focus stays entirely on their own intimate, slightly melancholy world. Engineers Julien Delfaud and Antoine Chabert, the latter a Daft Punk collaborator, helped polish the recording and mastering.
Garde Le Pour Toi, first released as a single two years before the album, glides on a hypnotic pulse and a hook that lingers long after the track fades. Toi Et Moi is a tender, compact pop moment, while the title track and Instantané stretch past six minutes each, unfolding into immersive house that rewards patience.
Elegant, understated and quietly euphoric, it suits city lights after midnight as well as slow Sunday mornings. Spread across two LPs, every groove gets the room it deserves.
