Fired from Black Sabbath and written off by plenty, Ozzy Osbourne came roaring back with Blizzard of Ozz, presented here remastered on 180-gram vinyl.
Released in 1980, his debut solo album introduced the world to guitarist Randy Rhoads, a classically minded young player whose speed and theatrical flair rewrote the rulebook for metal guitar. With Bob Daisley on bass and Lee Kerslake on drums, the new band built a record that sounded bigger and brighter than much of what the heavy metal camp was producing at the time, and it set Ozzy on course for a long and wildly successful solo career.
The songs remain staples for good reason. "Crazy Train" opens with a riff that practically every aspiring guitarist has attempted, while "Mr. Crowley" swirls in on ominous organ before Rhoads unleashes a solo that players still study note by note. "Goodbye to Romance" reveals a gentler side, a heartfelt ballad about leaving the past behind, and "Suicide Solution" stomps along with grim, whiskey-soaked swagger.
Blizzard of Ozz was the first of only two studio albums Rhoads recorded with Osbourne before his death in 1982, which lends every note an added weight. This heavyweight remaster lets those guitars ring out with real bite, a cornerstone for any metal shelf.
