OutKast's Aquemini is the sound of André 3000 and Big Boi fusing two very different personalities into one restless classic, headed for a 2LP pink splatter pressing imported from the UK.

Released in 1998, the duo's third album took its name from André's Aquarius and Big Boi's Gemini, and the music is just as much a blend. Produced by Organized Noize, OutKast and Mr. DJ, it was recorded in Atlanta over roughly two years with live instrumentation that pulls in 1970s funk, southern soul, gospel and psychedelic rock.

Rosa Parks became a signature, its stomping hand-clap groove broken up by a hoedown of a harmonica breakdown. SpottieOttieDopaliscious rides a long, hypnotic horn line, while Skew It on the Bar-B brings Raekwon down south for a ferocious verse. Da Art of Storytellin' (Pt. 1) shows how vividly the pair could spin a tale, and guest turns from George Clinton and Erykah Badu widen the circle even further.

It is the record where OutKast stopped being simply a great Southern rap group and became something nobody could box in, a sprawling, generous record that hip-hop is still catching up with.
