Orville Peck lowers his guard on Mule, a raw and searching country record pressed here on white vinyl.

His fourth album, released in 2026 on Warner Records, traces a single year that changed everything: addiction, the hard work of getting sober and the slow business of rebuilding a life. The songs unfold roughly in order, like pages torn from a diary, and much of the record lives in the space between the fringed, mysterious figure fans know and the man behind the mask.

Things open with Prologue (Eulogy Of A Man Turned Mule), a striking curtain-raiser that gathers the voices of Emmylou Harris, Noah Cyrus and Allison Russell. Rehab Blues names its subject without flinching, and lead single Too Little, Too Late, produced by Jay Joyce, stares down regret with a wry, steady gaze. The title track closes the story, the hard-won end point of everything that came before it.

That rich, cinematic baritone is as commanding as ever, but here it serves confession rather than character. There is grit in these songs and grief too, along with a lightness that only comes from surviving the worst of it.

For fans who fell for the drama of Pony and Bronco, this is Peck at his most human and, quite possibly, his most affecting.
