OneRepublic's Waking Up spreads across two LPs here, giving room to the record that turned a band of hitmakers into a fully formed pop-rock force.

Released in 2009, the band's second album followed the global success of their debut and Apologize. Ryan Tedder, already one of pop's most in-demand writers, took the lead as producer, with bassist and cellist Brent Kutzle among the additional producers. Much of the work began after the group moved back to their hometown of Denver, though sessions stretched to studios on several continents, including Abbey Road for the opener Made for You.

The singles show how wide the band's range had grown. All the Right Moves rides a stomping, clap-heavy rhythm and moody strings, while Secrets is built around a striking cello line and a chorus made for car stereos. Good Life is the warm, wide-eyed sing-along, and Marchin On brings a rousing, drum-led energy that made it a natural fit for World Cup coverage on German television.

Elsewhere, Everybody Loves Me and the six-minute title track add extra grit and drama to the mix.

Years on, Waking Up remains a high point for the band, a polished, big-hearted record that sounds right at home spread across four sides of vinyl.
