Olivia Rodrigo trades heartbreak for something more complicated on you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, a third album about falling in love and what comes after.

Released in 2026, it reunites her with Dan Nigro, the producer behind Sour and Guts, whose offhand remark gave the record its title. Rodrigo has said the songs trace her first adult relationship, and the album is split into two halves: seven tracks of devotion and lovesick joy, then six darker songs where yearning and anxiety creep in.

The sound widens to match. Dream pop, new wave and synth-pop sit at the centre, with shoegaze haze and post-punk edges that echo 1980s college rock. Lead single "Drop Dead" sets the tone, and "Stupid Song" captures the giddy rush of the first half.

On the flip side, "The Cure" leans into the moodier turn, while "What's Wrong With Me" features Robert Smith of The Cure himself, a guest spot that makes the record's influences explicit. Rodrigo's writing stays sharp and specific throughout, finding drama in small, ordinary moments.

It is the most adventurous thing she has made so far, and it plays best from start to finish, one side flowing naturally into the next.
