New Order's Movement is the sound of a band finding its feet after unthinkable loss, and this remastered pressing brings the 1981 debut back into sharp focus.

Following the death of Ian Curtis, the surviving members of Joy Division regrouped, added Gillian Gilbert on keyboards and returned to Strawberry Studios in Stockport with producer Martin Hannett. Released on Factory Records, Movement still carries the shadow of their old band, all icy atmosphere and brooding bass, but new shoots are everywhere, from sequencers to a growing fascination with electronic rhythm.

Dreams Never End opens with Peter Hook taking lead vocals over his own melodic bassline, while Senses and Truth lean into hypnotic, machine-driven grooves that hint at what was coming. Closer Denial carries the tension right to the last bar, and Peter Saville's striking sleeve, adapted from a Fortunato Depero design, remains one of the era's great covers.

It is a fascinating bridge between two legendary bands and the first step towards Power, Corruption & Lies and the dancefloor triumphs that followed. Heard fresh on this remastered vinyl, its chilly beauty sounds more influential than ever, and it remains an essential chapter for anyone who loves post-punk or the electronic music it helped inspire.
