Mudvayne's The End of All Things to Come is a twisted, technical beast of a metal album, here on 180-gram black vinyl as a gatefold 2LP Holland import.

Following their breakout L.D. 50, the Peoria, Illinois band returned in 2002 with a sharper, more ambitious record. Producer David Bottrill, known for his work with Tool, helped them balance their mathematical riffing with bigger hooks, and the result pushed them further into the mainstream without sanding off their weirdness. Chad Gray, Greg Tribbett, Ryan Martinie and Matthew McDonough sound locked in and fearless, trading odd time signatures like a private language.

"Not Falling" became one of their signature songs, all lurching rhythms and a chorus that explodes out of nowhere, and "World So Cold" builds from a brooding, almost tender opening into a crushing release. "Silenced" kicks the album off with a jolt of controlled chaos, while Martinie's dazzling, slap-heavy bass work runs through everything like a live wire.

More than two decades later, it remains a cornerstone of early-2000s heavy music and a favourite for fans who like their metal cerebral as well as crushing. The heavyweight pressing and gatefold give it the presentation it deserves, and the low end hits like a freight train.
