We Live & Die / Peace of Me pairs the two singles that led into Escape the Chaos, Morcheeba's eleventh studio album, pressed together on orange 7-inch.
The Godfrey brothers formed Morcheeba in 1995 after producing tracks for David Byrne, recruiting Skye Edwards to front what became one of trip hop's most durable and warmest voices, blending downtempo electronics with genuine folk and rock instincts rather than staying locked into one genre's usual moodiness. Thirty years and eleven albums later, with Paul Godfrey now stepped back from the project, this 2025 record finds Edwards and Ross Godfrey still finding new collaborators and new textures rather than coasting on the sound that made them famous decades ago.
We Live and Die carries real gravity beneath its warm, familiar Morcheeba atmosphere, Edwards' voice as unhurried and assured as ever. Peace of Me brings in rapper Oscar Worldpeace for a genuinely fresh collision, hip hop cadence sitting comfortably inside the band's downtempo groove rather than feeling bolted on.
Two singles that framed an eleventh album from a band three decades into proving they were never a one-era act. Morcheeba's sound has aged into something closer to a genuine signature than a trend they happened to catch early.
