Sixteen years after their last studio album, Molly Hatchet ride back into town with Lost Horizon, an upcoming 2LP set on 140-gram vinyl in a gatefold jacket.

The Jacksonville Southern rockers made this one in an unlikely place: Studio 2 at Abbey Road in London. Guitarist Bobby Ingram produced the album himself and wrote most of the songs through the pandemic years and a string of line-up changes, and the band now features new lead singer Parker Lee and drummer Garrett Ramsden alongside John Galvin on keys and Tim Lindsey on bass.

"Dixie Highway", the album's lead single, sets the tone with a title made for the open road, while "Jacksonvillain" nods to the band's hometown with a sly grin. "Whiskey Desperado" kicks up some outlaw dust, and "Once A Gambler" leans into the storytelling tradition that has always been part of their identity.

There is a comeback energy to the whole thing, but it is built largely on new songs rather than nostalgia, anchored by the heavy, harmonised guitar work fans have come to expect from the name.

For longtime fans who wore out Flirtin' With Disaster, it is a welcome sign that the flame is still burning, and the double-vinyl gatefold gives it a proper home.
