Happy Tears marks 30 years of Mogwai with the Glasgow band's first career-spanning collection, presented here in its expanded four-LP form on black and yellow vinyl.

Few bands have made instrumental guitar music feel as vast, or as quietly funny, as Mogwai. Across three decades of albums, film and television scores and late-career chart success, they have done everything on their own terms, and their own label, Rock Action, celebrates its 30th year alongside them.

The main album opens with Yes! I Am A Long Way From Home, the track that kicked off their debut Young Team, and moves through Auto Rock and a run of fan favourites. Brand New Paths to Helicon 1 reimagines one of their early classics with the Budapest Art Orchestra, and the set closes on Underground, a brand new song featuring Iggy Pop, a hero of Stuart Braithwaite's since childhood.

The second double LP goes further with 13 extra tracks, six of them previously unreleased, alongside remixes, live recordings and rarities that dig into the less-travelled corners of their catalogue.

For long-time fans it is a deep and rewarding look back, and for newcomers it is the ideal way into one of the most consistently thrilling bands Scotland has produced.
