The Time of Our Lives caught Miley Cyrus stepping out of the Hannah Montana spotlight, pressed here as an EP on purple and white splatter vinyl.

Released in 2009 as a short, tightly focused set, it arrived as Cyrus was testing out a more grown-up pop sound. She called it a transitional record, and that is how it plays: bright, guitar-driven pop rock produced largely by John Shanks and Dr. Luke, with one foot in the Disney era and the other stepping toward the chart dominance that followed a few years later.

Party in the U.S.A. is the obvious centrepiece, a Dr. Luke production co-written by Jessie J that climbed to number two on the Hot 100 and remains one of her signature songs. When I Look at You shows off her big, husky ballad voice, Kicking and Screaming opens with a punchy rock edge, and the title track, co-written by Kesha, adds a carefree, sunny bounce that fits its name.

Short, catchy and full of personality, it captures a pop star mid-transformation, years before Bangerz and Plastic Hearts. The splatter vinyl suits a record this playful, and it makes a fun, colourful counterpart to the bigger, bolder albums that came later in her catalogue.
