You're Under Arrest finds Miles Davis turning the pop radio of the mid-1980s into his own playground, and this limited 180-gram Holland import presses it on clear red vinyl.
Released in 1985, it was his final album for Columbia after three decades with the label, and one of the most openly playful records of his late period. Davis had fallen for contemporary pop, and he surrounded himself with a young band including guitarist John Scofield, saxophonist Bob Berg and bassist Darryl Jones, with John McLaughlin dropping in as a guest.
The headline moments are the covers. His muted trumpet turns Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" into a tender, floating meditation, and Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" becomes a ballad of remarkable delicacy that stayed in his live sets for years. "One Phone Call/Street Scenes" opens the record with a street-level drama about police harassment, complete with a spoken cameo from Sting, while "Katia" lets McLaughlin's guitar crackle and burn.
Some purists grumbled at the time, but the album has aged into a fan favorite, its mix of funk grooves, pop melodies and urban storytelling sounding ahead of its moment. This colorful pressing is a bright, bold way to revisit the hinge between his Columbia years and the electric experiments that followed.
