A Man of Two Worlds is Midge Ure's first album of new material in 12 years, and he splits it neatly across two LPs.
The Ultravox frontman and Band Aid co-writer spent much of the past decade on the road, and this 2026 release shows what happened when he finally settled back into the studio. The first disc, World One: Music, gathers eight instrumentals partly inspired by lockdown, when Ure found himself drawn to instrumental music and set out to write melodies strong enough to carry a piece without words. The second, World Two: Songs, took shape as the world reopened, and its eight vocal tracks wrestle with the discord he sees around him.
"A Different View" and "The Space In-Between" set the mood on the instrumental side, all patient synth layers and slowly unfolding themes, closer to a film score than to the chart hits. On the vocal disc, "Shouting to the Moon" and "Fan the Flame" are sparse and meditative, his voice still clear and plaintive, framed by arrangements that leave plenty of air.
Two moods, one consistent sensibility: the cinematic ear that shaped Vienna is still at work here.
Presented as a 2LP set, it is a reflective late-career statement from an artist with plenty left to say, and it rewards a patient, start-to-finish listen.
