Cannonball is the first full-length from Man/Woman/Chainsaw, and it sounds like a London band who have spent years sharpening their live show.
Formed in 2019, the six-piece share lead vocals between bassist Vera Leppänen, guitarist Billy Ward and keyboardist Emmie-Mae Avery, with Clio Starwood's violin cutting through the art-rock and post-punk clatter. After early singles and the 2024 Eazy Peazy EP, they signed to Fiction Records and released this debut in 2026, produced by Margo Broom and Seth Evans, two names closely tied to London's most adventurous guitar bands. Years of hard touring had already turned them into a formidable live act.
The album rewards that hard-won confidence with unconventional song structures and big, unexpected choruses, and nothing sits still for long. Singles "Only Girl" and "Nosedive" arrived first and show the band at their most direct, three voices trading lines before folding into one. "Goddamn, Lizard Man!" promises chaos in its title alone, and "Something Else to Give" closes the record, violin and keys swelling around the group's tangled harmonies.
It is a smart, exuberant first album that captures the band exactly as they are right now, restless and brimming with ideas. Play it loud and you will want a ticket to their next show.
