Madonna's American Life Mixshow Mix is a 2023 tribute EP honouring Peter Rauhofer, the remixer who turned so many of her songs into dancefloor anthems.
Released to mark twenty years since the American Life album, the record gathers club versions from that era, several of them fresh edits of Rauhofer's mixes. Rauhofer died in 2013, and the set stands as a fond salute to a producer whose big-room house sound was a fixture of New York club life and a key part of Madonna's dance legacy.
The title track arrives in Rauhofer's American Anthem New Edit, swapping the original's acoustic strum for pounding beats and a dramatic build. "Nothing Fails" becomes a euphoric classic house workout in his hands, while Deepsky's mix of "Hollywood" adds a sleek, progressive shimmer. Elsewhere, Thunderpuss bring "Die Another Day", her James Bond theme, roaring onto the floor.
The sequencing flows like a DJ set, so the record works as well at a party as it does on a collector's shelf, and it shows how much life these songs had beyond the album versions.
For fans of Madonna's club side, it is a loving, high-energy celebration of a creative partnership that kept her music pulsing on dancefloors around the world.
