M83's tenth studio album, I Wrote You A Letter, finds Anthony Gonzalez chasing instinct over polish, pressed here on 140 gram vinyl.

Released in 2026, it is the project's first full-length since Fantasy in 2023, and it grew from demos Gonzalez began in 2024. He has described the record as a reaction to a world he feels deeply disillusioned by, and as something less calculated and more spontaneous than what came before, even a little punk in spirit. Longtime collaborator Benoît de Villeneuve is back alongside him, with sessions split between Los Angeles and Paris.

That looser approach reaches back toward the immediacy of M83's early bedroom recordings, imperfections and all. Opener and lead single "Blister Sunrise" sets the tone, and the record moves through nine tracks including "Soldiers of Lust", "Heart Motion Foto" and the closing "Traces of Love". The emotional scale the project is known for is still here, filtered through a rawer, more restless mood that suits the times it was written in.

A quarter of a century after the debut, Gonzalez still treats each album as a fresh start rather than a victory lap. This one feels personal and a little bruised, the kind of record that rewards a late-night listen with the lights low and the volume generous.
