Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor announced a rapper who could rhyme about skateboarding and street politics in the same breath, and it still sounds fresh spread across this 2LP pressing.

Released in 2006, the Chicago MC's debut arrived with plenty of anticipation after his star turn on Kanye West's Touch the Sky, and it delivered a vision of hip-hop that was thoughtful, nerdy and proudly left of center. The title nods to the corner stores of his childhood, with the good and the bad sitting side by side, and that tension runs through every verse.

Kick, Push turned a story about skate culture into an unlikely hit, its breezy, uplifting beat as easy as a summer afternoon. Daydreamin' with Jill Scott flips a lush orchestral sample into a sly critique of rap clichés, The Cool introduces the haunting character Lupe would later build an entire album around, and Hurt Me Soul wrestles honestly with his own discomfort about hip-hop's darker habits.

Appearances from Jay-Z and Pharrell add star power, but this is unmistakably Lupe's show, packed with dense wordplay and storytelling that rewards repeat listens.
