Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose returns as an expanded edition on orange vinyl, bringing one of the great late-career country records back with a once hard-to-find bonus track.

Released in 2004, it paired the coal miner's daughter with Jack White, who produced the sessions and played on them, and the collision of Lynn's Kentucky storytelling with White's raw garage-rock instincts introduced her to a whole new generation. She wrote most of the songs herself, and the album takes its name from the Van Lear mine where her father once worked. She was in her seventies at the time, and the record proved she had lost none of her fire.

Portland, Oregon is the swaggering highlight, a sloe-gin-soaked duet with White full of fuzz and flirtation. The title track spins family history into something cinematic, while Miss Being Mrs. is a quietly devastating portrait of life after losing a husband. Elsewhere, the songs swing between barn-burning defiance and front-porch tenderness.

This edition adds Just to Have You Back, previously heard only by members of Third Man's Vault subscription, to the original 13 songs, making fourteen in all.

It remains a towering late chapter from a country legend, and this pressing gives it the bright, bold presentation it deserves.
