Lorenzo Senni has spent years reducing trance to its most euphoric fragments, and All Ages, his first album in six years, pushes that idea through the spirit of hardcore punk.

The Italian producer made his name on Warp with a style built from the build-ups and rushes of rave music, minus the drops. His last full-length, Scacco Matto, arrived in 2020. This time the title borrows the open-door policy of hardcore shows, and Senni has described himself as a straightedge drummer at drugged-out gabber raves. That tension between purity and excess runs right through the record.

For the first time, Senni's own vocals appear on one of his albums. "Art Life & Skateboarding" opens with spoken segments from skateboarders Chad Muska and Jamie Thomas, a nod to a subculture that grew up alongside punk. Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu turns up on "La Persuasione e La Rettorica," and titles like "XGood Clean FunX" and "KILL LIES ALL" wear the hardcore influence openly.

Across eleven tracks, the shimmer Senni is known for meets a rougher, more personal edge.

For fans of his earlier work, this is the sound of a familiar language learning new words. For everyone else, it is a compelling meeting point between club music and punk ethics.
