London Music Works take on the haunted world of The Last of Us across this colored double LP, gathering themes from both games and both seasons of the television series.
The London ensemble has built a long catalogue of film, television and game music recordings, and here, alongside Nick Squires, it turns to one of the most celebrated scores in modern gaming. Gustavo Santaolalla's music for the series leans on intimate guitar, open space and fragile melody rather than bombast, and these new arrangements honour that restraint while giving each piece room to breathe.
The first game's quieter heartbreaks return through Vanishing Grace, while Allowed To Be Happy captures the bittersweet warmth at the heart of Part II. Later sides move into cues from the HBO adaptation, Max Richter's On The Nature Of Daylight makes an appearance near the end, and a version of Take On Me nods to the moment Ellie picks up a guitar and sings that song in Part II. Every arrangement keeps the focus on melody, letting the quieter moments carry as much weight as the big ones.
