Lizzy McAlpine's Angel spreads her fourth album across two clear vinyl LPs with a poster tucked inside, and it may be the warmest, widest record she has made.

Angel follows 2024's Older and a busy stretch that took her to Broadway in Floyd Collins and into her first film role. She returned to the studio with longtime collaborators Mason Stoops and Taylor Mackall, producing alongside them over nearly two years in and around Los Angeles. The result leans toward 1970s Laurel Canyon folk while keeping the close-up intimacy of modern indie songwriting.

The Light in the Painting opens the album on the giddy rush of a new connection, setting up a record that moves from romance and heartbreak toward friendship, family and self-acceptance. Ugly Things is the emotional peak, its layered strings swelling around her delicate vocal until the song feels ready to burst. Later, The Crowd and the closing title track Angel turn quieter and more searching, with grief and gratitude sitting side by side.
