The Christmas Record marks Little Big Town's first holiday album, a 2024 collection built on the four-part harmonies that made them country favourites, pressed on limited green vinyl as an indie exclusive.
Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Phillip Sweet and Jimi Westbrook have spent more than two decades blending their voices, and the festive season makes an ideal showcase. The eleven songs mix well-loved standards with newer material, arranged so each singer gets a moment while the group sound stays front and centre.
Their take on Merle Haggard's "If We Make It Through December" leans into its wistful honesty, while "Christmas Time Is Here" floats on soft, close harmony. Amy Grant's "Tennessee Christmas" feels right at home in their Nashville hands, and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" gets the gentle, candlelit treatment it deserves.
There is a front-porch intimacy throughout, the feel of friends gathered around a piano on a winter evening rather than a glossy holiday spectacular. Even the brighter moments keep that warmth, letting the voices carry the cheer instead of piling on bells and gloss.
