Langhorne Slim has always sung like his heart was about to burst, and The Dreamin' Kind gives that voice its widest canvas yet.
Released in 2026, the Pennsylvania-born songwriter's ninth studio album was produced by Sam Kiszka of Greta Van Fleet, who also plays bass, with the band's drummer Danny Wagner behind the kit. The songs took shape at Kiszka's home in Nashville and were recorded across roughly a year, fitted around Slim's touring and family life with no clock ticking. Fiddle, banjo, organ and vintage keyboards were layered in along the way.
That freedom gives the record the feel of a well-loved mixtape, swinging between loud, ragged rock and roll and tender folk and acoustic songs. Opener "Rock N Roll" leaves little doubt about where the record's heart lies, while "Dream Come True" and "Loyalty" carry the open-hearted sincerity that has long been his calling card, and "Haunted Man" wanders into darker corners.
Slim's raspy, wide-open delivery ties it all together, from the rowdiest moments to the most hushed, and his band clearly had fun keeping up.
For fans who have followed him since the early 2000s, it is a joyful reminder of why they fell for him, and an easy way in for anyone new.
