Man in the Moon [Blue] Vinyl
Man in the Moon caught L.A. Guns mid-reunion in 2001, Phil Lewis and Mick Cripps rejoining Tracii Guns and Steve Riley after years of lineup chaos, produced by Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke.
By the late 1990s the band had cycled through enough singers that the name barely meant anything consistent anymore, so bringing the classic-era voice back into the room felt like a genuine event, even if the reunion itself was still finding its footing. Lewis has been characteristically blunt about it since, admitting the record landed somewhere between comeback and going-through-the-motions, and that tension is actually what makes it worth hearing, a band capable of real chemistry working out whether they still had it in real time rather than performing a tidy nostalgia trip.
The title track carries genuine hooks despite the circumstances, Lewis's sneer still intact over Tracii's guitar work. Spider's Web stretches out with more ambition than the reunion narrative usually gets credit for, and Don't Call Me Crazy runs past six minutes, the record's most sprawling attempt at something beyond a quick radio single. Scream closes things with straightforward Sunset Strip swagger, no pretense about it.
An uneven reunion record from a band figuring out in real time whether the old magic still existed. Worth hearing for exactly that uncertainty.
