Kraftwerk's Radio-Activity celebrates its 50th anniversary with this picture disc edition, housed in a die-cut sleeve that lets the artwork and the vinyl itself share the spotlight.

Released in 1975, the Düsseldorf group's follow-up to Autobahn plays on a clever double meaning: the invisible waves of radio broadcasting and the menace of nuclear power. Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider produced it at their own Kling Klang studio, with Wolfgang Flür and Karl Bartos completing the lineup, and the album pushed even further toward the fully electronic sound that would go on to reshape pop.

Geiger Counter crackles to life before the title track Radioactivity unfolds, its Morse code bleeps and haunting, choir-like melody among the most beautiful things the band ever recorded. Antenna is a jaunty slice of minimal synth-pop, and Ohm Sweet Ohm closes the record by slowly gathering speed until it glows.

Between the songs sit fragments of static, broadcast snippets and eerie tones, so the whole record feels like turning a dial across frequencies nobody else had found yet.

Half a century on, its influence runs through synth-pop, techno and beyond, and this picture disc makes a striking way to honor one of the most quietly radical albums of the seventies.
