The 2017 record was the third of five albums the Gizzard released that year, and easily the most relaxed of the bunch. Its title nods to the Melbourne suburb where it was made and to Miles Davis's Sketches of Spain. The collaboration took off when Mild High Club's Alex Brettin visited Stu Mackenzie at the end of 2016, and the pair swapped short voice-memo ideas, the sketches of the title, before cutting the album at the band's own Flightless HQ in about three weeks.

What came out is soft-focus psychedelia with a lounge-jazz heart. The Spider And Me drifts on a lazy, sun-warmed groove, Rolling Stoned slurs along with a sleepy grin, and the three-part title suite threads through the record like a recurring daydream. Soft keys and gently stoned vocals give it the feel of a late-afternoon jam among friends.

It earned an ARIA nomination for Best Jazz Album, which still surprises listeners who know the band mainly for thrash workouts and microtonal riffing.

Mellow and gently strange, it is the Gizzard record to put on with the windows open and the afternoon stretching out ahead.
